On the first day of auditions we did it in our forms. I personally didn't want to big role because I know I can't sing. But I was looking forward to being a back up dancer or helping move props on and off stage. I did my best in the auditions but as I predicted I did not get called back which was okay with me as I didn't really want to be a big role in the play. As the weeks went on the principles were brought out for rehearsals and I was in class. Eventually we were brought to learn our background dances in the big songs, I was in the main legally blonde song and the remix of that. It was good fun. All the form classes had their own dances.
We had to get our own costumes but I was lucky because my costume was just a plain T-shirt, jeans and converse all of which I already had. When we started rehearsals on stage, I asked Aisling if she needed any help for props to come on and off stage during the performance as I wanted to get more involved without actually being on stage. She was pleased to have another set of hands and gave me plenty to do. Michael Flynn, Ben Hogan and I were the three students to help backstage along with two people brought in from outside of school. On the night of the show I would stand backstage for most of the performance as I would have to be ready to bring on chairs tables and for one scene this big plywood caravan type thing, for the majority of the show.
I really enjoyed doing this and found it much more enjoyable than actually being on stage. Ben and Michael and I had to work closely with the two stage directors to make sure everything went smoothly and according to plan. It was a very enjoyable experience and I would recommend it to anyone who wont feel comfortable on stage but still wants to be involved in the process of play.
I think the play went really well, all the actors did an amazing job. There were no huge mess ups and everything behind the scenes went very smoothly as well. Thank you for giving us this opportunity.
